Cebem International

VISION AND PURPOSE

CEBEM-International isaCanadian and Latin American initiative of CEBEM. The vision is to strengthen the collaboration between North and South for development purposes with a base on the innovations that haveemerged in information and communication; regional knowledge networks that link academics and practitioners; and diverse modalities of online education. The purpose of CEBEM-International (CI) is to contribute to mutual knowledge about development problems, particularly between Latin America and the Caribbean countries, and Canada. CI will promote multidisciplinary cooperation and mutual learning for implementation of research, documentation, online education, information, and communication activities on diverse development themes.

OBJECTIVES

Among CEBEM-International objectives are to:

  1. Contribute, by means of applied and participatory research, to the knowledge and solution of economic, social, cultural, political and environmental development problems;
  2. Facilitate and provide research and consultancy services to public and private institutions;
  3. Conduct documentation activities addressed to stimulate information exchange, analysis and debate on topics of interest for development;
  4. Contribute to formulation of policy proposals for development;
  5. Disseminate research and policy analysis results through virtual gathering, filing, presentation and communication means;
  6. Promote pedagogical innovations in virtual education in order to produce updating courses for academics, professionals and practitioners.

ACTIVITIES

To reach its objectives, CI will promote and develop modalities of collaboration between institutions and networks in North and South, on the base of the institutional capital generated by CEBEM La Paz, Bolivia, during its twenty years of successful work in the region. That includes associations of work with research centers, universities, regional networks and training programs in Latin American countries. CI is born with a vocation for facilitating that specialists in the North may conduct activities in the South by using various virtual mechanisms. Among them are to give information about their activities in the South by means of newsletters, to identify potential partners through searchers in its data basis and others available in the region, to transfer experience for designing experimental courses for professional updating, and to facilitate links with knowledge communities and networks. Likewise, CI will pursue similar purposes for the case of Latin Americans so that they may expand audiences and make their experiences and resources known by the North. In this way, CI aspires to be a bridge between Canadian specialists and from other countries in the North, wishing to root well their initiatives in Latin America and the Caribbean, and Latin Americans searching to project their work towards the North and beyond.
